Plates as frames

We grouped together a number of plates and used them as frames. You can mount photos or pictures in the plates, but always keep your colour scheme in mind.

You will need
• assorted plates
• pictures and/or photos
• matching scrapbooking paper (optional)
• modge podge
• sponge brush
• pencil, ruler and compass
• scissors

To make
1
Arrange your selection of plates on a flat work surface. Arrange your pictures or photos on the plates.

2 Decide what size you’d like your pictures to be. Draw a circle around them using a pencil and compass, then cut out. Or cut neatly around the outline of the image if you want to etch it. To add a backing to some of the pictures, cut larger circles from scrapbooking paper. We used polka-dot paper to match our polka-dot plates.

3 Check that all the circles fit neatly, then paint a coat of modge podge on the first plate and on the back of the picture you want to mount on that plate. Position the picture on the plate and press flat. Paint another coat of modge podge over the picture to seal it. Repeat the process to mount all the pictures. Leave to dry completely.

4 Seal with another coat of modge podge, but remember that you will be able to use these plates for decorative purposes only as they cannot be washed.
