Make your own clothes bag

This stylish clothes bag is perfect both at home and on the road.

Size
Length 96cm, width 58cm

You will need
• brown paper or newspaper
• pencil and ruler
• French curve
• coat hanger
• 100 x 150cm lime-green botanical brocade or embellished silk fabric
• matching sewing thread
• 95cm matching-coloured zip fastener

To cut
Make a paper pattern on newspaper or brown paper. Start by drawing a 60 x 98cm rectangle. Along the top edge draw a line 15cm in from the outline. Using a French curve or the coat hanger, shape the top from the centre to form a gradual curve (a coat hanger must sit below this curve). Cut out the pattern. Cut out a back piece from the fabric. Fold the paper pattern in half lengthways and cut in half. Now cut out two corresponding pieces for the fronts from fabric, allowing an extra 1cm seam allowance along the centre front edge.

To sew
1 Fold in a 1cm seam allowance along the front edges. Starting at the lower edge, pin the zip tape along the seam allowance of the centre front seams. (A 1cm space will remain at the top of the seam when the zip is in position.) Using a zipper foot, sew the zip in place. Open the zip fastener.
2 With the right sides of the fabric facing, sew the back and fronts together around all edges, working a 1cm seam allowance. Clip the corner seams at the lower edge and clip the seam frequently around the curve. Turn through to the right side.
3 Place a coat hanger along the top edge so the hook sits neatly in the open section of the top seam and close the zip fastener.
