Linen placemats
Size 36 x 48cm
You will need (for a set of six)
• 80 x 150cm natural medium weight linen
• white sewing thread
• template
• dressmaker’s carbon paper and pencil
To make
1 Cut out each placemat 36 x 48cm and iron gently. Trace and enlarge the border design, repeating the design for the remaining three sections of the border. Transfer the border design to each placemat, placing it 5cm from the edge.
2 Start with the inside border design and use white sewing thread. Set your sewing machine on a large zigzag stitch with a wide setting so it forms a satin stitch. Follow the border design around the placemat.
3 In the same way, sew the outer border, but this time change the stitch so that it is finer. Fray the edges of the placemats for about 1,5cm using a sewing needle to pull out the threads.
