Note
After finishing the embroidery, wash the marker pen out of the fabric. Leave until almost dry then press lightly on the reverse side while still damp.

To make
1
Measure the lid of your box, adding an allowance for the side and inside edges, and cut a piece of fabric to these measurements.

2 Copy the embroidery motif in the correct size. Place the copy in position under your fabric with the fabric right side facing you, and trace the motif onto it with your fabric pen.

3 Place the fabric into your embroidery hoop. Work with three strands of thread and make a knot at the end. Insert the needle from the right side through the fabric, at a point away from the motif, and begin to embroider.

4 Work the entire design, except for the innermost circle, in chain stitch (see diagram below). Begin with the outermost circle and work inwards. End off by working the threads away at the back of the fabric. Start with a knot each time and work the threads away afterwards before you start the next section, or else the threads will show through from the back.

5 Work the innermost circle with French knots (see diagram below).

6 Once you have embroidered the whole motif, cut away the knots and work the threads away.

7 Use fabric glue to cover the lid neatly with your piece of embroidered fabric.
