Vintage paper sleeves

Here is a quick idea for when you want to set a special table, but don’t have much time. ‘Vintage’ was our inspiration.

Paper sleeves
Use scrapbooking paper with a pretty front and back. If you prefer, trim the top and bottom edges of the paper with pattern-edged scissors before folding. Fold the bottom third upwards and use a pencil to lightly mark pockets for the knife, fork and spoon. Sew the pockets with a top stitch – use a contrasting coloured thread and leave the ends unfinished to accentuate the stitching. For extra embellishment, you can cut a decorative strip from a different sheet of paper and glue it over the bottom pocket before stitching it.

Extra detail
Use pretty cord in a colour that matches your placemats to tie each guest’s knife and fork together with a bow. Or use lace for a more delicate look. Turn it loosely around the cutlery and drape the long ends over the table.
